Saturday's Race

Pete qualified 2nd overall with a time of 1:44.140.  Pete and Chad Slagg, driver of the K-Powered Civic SI, were able to put a nice gap on the other H1 cars.  With 5 laps remaining in the 40min. race, Pete's engine broke a rod, putting an end to his race.   Even with the bad luck, Pete did set a new H1 Mid-Ohio track record of 1:43.001!

The Curpier Motorsport Team was able to swap in a new bottom end after Saturday's race.  A huge thanks to Mark Connolly for helping us out all weekend.  When we returned to our shop on Monday, we inspected the blown engine.  We determined that the #2 rod failed near the oiling hole.

Sunday's Race

Sunday's schedule was a bit different than normal.  Instead of a normal qualifying session, a 25 min. qualifying race was used to set the field for the main race.  The starting order was based on Saturday's race results.  Pete ended up finishing 20th in the Honda-Challenge field, so he was gridded 20th ... he had some work to do to get up front.

A rolling start was used in the qualification race, and Pete was able to make up 7 positions just on the start!  He was able to get by all the H1 cars, and finish in 2nd position!  He turned a fast lap of 1:44.243, coming through the field.

For the Main Race of the day, a standing start was used.  The Honda-Challenge race group was racing in Group A along with Spec Miata, and Small Bore.  A total of 55 cars were in the field!  Pete had a great start and was able to hold off the rear wheel drive S2000's coming from behind.  Like Saturday's Race, Pete and Chad Slagg were able to put a gap on the other H1 cars.  Pete and Chad diced back and forth, with Pete holding the lead for 2 laps of the race.  In the end, Chad was able to hold Pete off for the win.  Overall it was a good points finish for Pete.
